Tips & Tricks

Water

Water

In borders and in pots it is important to water sufficiently after planting. Depending on the weather, give water 1-3 times a week. After the plant has grown roots, it only needs water if it is extremely dry. They do not like wet feet, make sure the soil is permeable or that excess water can flow away.

Location

Location

The Helleborus is hardy and most species are evergreen, preferring the semi-shade. Make sure that the plant does not stand in full shade, because then the plant cannot dry itself properly and this increases the chance of fungal diseases.

Fertiliser

Fertiliser

Make sure the soil is rich in nutrients and fertilise the soil twice a year. Do this with an organic long-term fertiliser, the first time in early spring and the second time in September. If the plant is in a pot, fertilise once a month.
